HydroVac
Brought in by Malka Media to art direct and elevate an existing set of HydroVac feature shots, relighting, retexturing, and reanimating work that was already timed out.
Shark wanted to showcase the technology inside the HydroVac, and Malka Media (now Gen Digital) hired me specifically to art direct and elevate visuals that already existed. The shots were timed out, animated, and lit, the structure was locked. My job was to look at every frame with a director’s eye, decide exactly where it fell short of premium, and rework it, relighting scenes, rebuilding textures, and reanimating moves until the footage matched the level the product deserved.
Elevating locked work is a pure art direction problem, you cannot rebuild, you have to diagnose. I focused on the three things that separate good product footage from great, how light wraps the surfaces, how materials respond up close, and whether the motion has intent. Adjusting those inside existing timing, without breaking the edit, is exactly the kind of surgical direction this project ran on.
